ARTIST RESIDENCY WITH ART MATTERS (OCT – DEC 2017)
Not long after Christmas I finished a three month residency with Art Matters, a registered mental health charity. Art Matters is a fantastic and very popular community arts studio which helps people recovering from mental health illness with a variety of creative activities and studio support. On top of this, they also offer artist residencies to outside artists.
To hear more about what they do in their own words, head over to their website: http://www.artmatters-richmondfellowship.org.uk/index.php
During my residency I spent one afternoon a week making portraits of Art Matters members within a time limit of 45 min per drawing. I found this hugely challenging, and very useful – breaking long held notions about the time you need to see things (not much at all apparently!). Drawings soon to be available for viewing in the gallery section of this site.
